Whitehaven Coal’s profit plunges on lower coal prices
Australian coal miner Whitehaven Coal saw net profit plunge in the first half ended 31 December 2023 amid lower coal prices, Kallanish notes.
The group says its H1 net profit tumbled 86% to AUD 257.6 million ($168.71m) from AUD 1.78 billion a year earlier.
Revenue also plummeted, by 58% to AUD 1.59 billion from AUD 3.81 billion a year earlier.
The group achieved an average coal price of AUD 220/tonne, down sharply from AUD 552/t a year ago.
