Weekly raw steel production decreases in US
Weekly raw steel production in the US for the week ended 3 August was 1.722 million short tons with a capacity utilisation rate of 77.5%, Kallanish learns from the American Iron and Steel Institute.
Raw steel production decreased by 0.4% week-on-week. In the week ended 27 July, raw production was 1.729m st and utilisation was 77.9%.
The latest figure represents a 0.6% increase from the equivalent period of 2023 when production was 1.712m st, and utilisation was 75.3%.
The South produced 733,000st of steel, whilst the Great Lakes region's volume was 582,000st. The Midwest produced 211,000st, the Northeast 130,000st, and the West 66,000st.
The adjusted year-to-date production through 3 August is 52.421m st at a capacity utilisation rate of 76.5%. During the equivalent period of 2023, ytd production totalled 53.592m st and the capacity utilisation rate was 77.3%.
