Samarco to face $44 billion lawsuit

Brazil’s Federal Public Ministry (MPF) has filed a BRL 155 billion ($43.7 billion) civil lawsuit against Vale and BHP joint-venture, Samarco Mineração SA, Kallanish learns from MPF documents. The lawsuit follows last November’s dam disaster which killed 19 people and polluted the Rio Doce river system (see Kallanish 10 November).
