USW challenges KPS plan for Essar Algoma
The Canadian wing of the United Steelworkers labour union is decrying a plan by capital investment firm KPS Capital Partners to buy bankrupt Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, steelmaker Essar Steel Algoma.
The company’s former parent firm, Essar Global, was denied the right to bid on its former asset by an Ontario Superior Court judge. That puts the future of the steelworks – and its steelworkers – at risk, the USW says.
