Usiminas restarts blast furnace, confident of demand recovery
Brazilian steelmaker Usinas Siderúrgicas de Minas Gerais resumed operation of its blast furnace No. 1 and steelworks No. 1 at the Ipatinga plant on 26 August, Kallanish notes.
The equipment, which has a production capacity of 2,000 tonnes of pig iron per day, was shut down in April as a result of the sharp drop in steel demand during the Covid-19 crisis.
