Usiminas reduces losses despite falling market
Usiminas reduced significantly its losses last year despite a falling market in relation to production and sales, Kallanish learns from the Brazilian steelmaker.
The company saw crude steel production fall -37% year-on-year to 3.1 million tonnes in 2016 as volumes sold were down -26% to 3.6mt. While the domestic market saw a fall in volumes of only -12%, export sales plunged -60% to a mere 477,000t for the entire 2016.
