US raw steel production increases
US raw steel production is up both on week and on year, Kallanish learns from the American Iron and Steel Institute.
Raw steel production stands at 1.791 million short tons at 75.6% capability utilisation, up 1.8% from the previous week, when utilisation was 74.3%, and up 6.3% from the equivalent week last year, when utilisation was 72.1%.
The Great Lakes region led production with 694,000 st, followed by the South with 641,000 st and the Northeast with 210,000 st. The Midwest produced 168,000 st, and the West produced 78,000 st.
Year-to-date production stands at 17.387m st at 73.4% capability utilisation, up 4.7% from last year, when utilisation was 71.3%.
