Plate market suffering in US, but prices hold
Plate prices in the US held steady on-week at $1,470-1,530/short ton, Kallanish confirms.
“Business continues to tank. The only industry doing alright is mining. Most distributors have deals with major mills. Nucor is fully operational but isn’t meeting its goals. The next price announcement is coming, but prices are falling no matter the number,” a distribution source says.
Another operator of a large-scale Midwestern service-centre says: “There’s nothing happening in the market. We’re just waiting for Nucor’s October prices.”
The prices of steel plates in the equivalent week of 2022 ranged from $1,760-1,810/st.
All prices are ex-works domestic mill.
