Wire rod imports increase in March
US wire rod imports increased from February to March, Kallanish learns from preliminary steel import data collected by the US Department of Commerce.
According to preliminary census data collected through 22 April, imports of wire rod to the US totaled 65,267 tonnes in March. This is an increase from February, during which imports totaled 55,965t. The leading countries in wire rod exports to the US in March were Canada (34,041t) and Japan (16,161t). Import licensing data for wire rod in April currently reaches 39,732t, with 16,663t from Turkey.
In an on-year comparison, wire rod imports are up from imports in March 2020 totaling 57,870t. At the time, the leading exporter of wire rod to the US was Turkey with 36,567t.
