UK car manufacturing dips, factories retool for electric
UK car manufacturing output decreased by 11.9% on-year in May to 69,652 units, as factories continue to retool for electric vehicles, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
Production for the UK market rose by 9.7% to 17,754 units but did not offset the 17.4% decline in exports, which fell to 51,898 units, Kallanish notes.
With 74.5% of all cars built in the UK being exported, 52.5% go to the EU, 18.2% to the US, and 8% to Turkey.
