UK, Russia offset reduced US-origin Turkish scrap imports
Turkish imports of scrap increased 6% on-year in March to 1.84 million tonnes, despite a slump in rebar exports, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
The vast majority – 1.82mt – was old steel scrap. The rise happened despite a -21% drop in intake from top supplier US to 333,593t. This was offset by a 27% surge in intake from the UK to 330,889t and a three-fold increase in Russia-origin imports to 250,283t.
