Tata UK uses laser to improve slab quality
Tata Steel UK has installed a laser technology at two of its Port Talbot-based slab re-heating furnaces, to improve product quality and consistency, as well as cut carbon emissions. These are the first digitally fired furnaces in the world to use this technology, says Tata.
The technology was developed by Tata steel process technologist Jonathan Richards, together with technology company OnPoint Digital Solutions, a Koch Engineered Solutions company.
