Sweden pioneers green-steelmaking, hydrogen storage unclear: Wood Mackenzie
Sweden has the potential to pioneer “green” steelmaking thanks to having Europe’s largest iron ore reserves and excellent renewable energy resources, says Wood Mackenzie.
This is the case despite Sweden producing 4.4 million tonnes of crude steel in 2020, only 3.2% of the EU27+UK’s production. At least two initiatives, by HYBRIT and H2 Green Steel, have been launched with a target to produce a combined 10m t/year of green steel by 2030.
