Steel prices steady despite mill losses
Chinese steel futures prices firmed slightly on Thursday, confirming their range above CNY 2,100/tonne ($324/t). Several steelmakers have announced 2015 losses over recent days however, a reminder that the market is not as strong as the last few weeks appear to suggest, Kallanish notes.
The October rebar contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange closed up CNY 17/t at CNY 2,136/t ($330/t), while the May hot rolled coil contract closed up CNY 37/t at CNY 2,389/t.
