Steel gains as iron ore slides
Chinese steel futures prices regained some lost ground on Wednesday even as iron ore remained weak. The move suggests a slight drop in steel output is having an effect but clouds continue to gather on the horizon.
The May 2016 rebar contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange closed up CNY 29/tonne at CNY 1,659/t ($259/t), while the same contract for hot rolled coil closed up CNY 45/t at CNY 1,730/t.
