Plantbuilder SMS Group will close its location in Hilden sooner than planned, relocating 170 people to its headquarters in Düsseldorf.

According to earlier plans, the Hilden staff were to be moved to Mönchengladbach, where the group had planned to build a new, larger office building. However, those plans have folded on account of slow business, Kallanish learns from daily “Rheinische Post,” which cites SMS’ official spokesman in this matter.

Since 2013 SMS has cut back its workforce by 1,200. The Düsseldorf location has thus cleared space for the staffers from Hilden. The spokesman underlines that the jobs were cut in a socially responsible manner, via natural fluctuation and early retirement. He adds that no more cutbacks are planned after the relocation. All three sites are located in North Rhine-Westphalia.
