Slab caster upgrade to improve Tata hot strip
Tata Steel has contracted SMS to upgrade the continuous slab caster at its plant in Jamshedpur in order to improve the quality of the hot strip produced, the German technology supplier says.
The upgrade will equip both strands with an electromagnetic brake that reduces the flow velocity of the liquid steel immediately when it enters the mold, and thus steadies the mold level, SMS explains.
