Siderperu grows its ferrous scrap purchases
Peruvian long products steelmaker Empresa Siderúrgica del Perú (Siderperu), a subsidiary of Brazil's Gerdau, says it has spent more than PEN 350 million ($93.3m) in ferrous scrap purchasing during 2023. The value was 38% higher year-on-year.
Siderperu melts almost 400,000 tonnes/year of scrap for its long steel production, ranking it as one of the largest consumers in Latin America, Kallanish notes.
