Scrap-based steel production drops in 2015
Scrap usage in steelmaking and scrap trade declined last year, the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) states.
Global steel production was down -3% on-year in 2015. The reduction of scrap-intensive electric arc furnace production (-5.4% to around 403 million tonnes) was sharper meanwhile than the decline of basic oxygen furnace output (-2.28% to 1.2 billion tonnes).
