Samarco, Vale, BHP propose compensation for Fundão accident
Samarco, Vale and BHP have submitted a non-binding, indicative settlement proposal of BRL 127 billion ($24.8 million) to the Brazilian authorities as compensation for the impact caused by the rupture of the Fundão dam. The accident killed 19 people and flooded areas in two states of southeastern Brazil on 5 November 2015, destroying communities and contaminating navigable waterways.
