Sail blows in rebuilt Rourkela blast furnace
Steel Authority of India (Sail) has blown in its blast furnace no.1 at the Rourkela Steel Plant following a rebuild that has increased its hot metal capacity by 438,000 tonnes/year to 1.015 million t/y.
Besides boosting output, the rebuild, which lasted almost five years, will reduce the BFs coal consumption, thereby improving its carbon footprint, the Indian state-owned steelmaker says.
