Qatar Steel ramps up DRI output, merchant sales
Qatar Steel restarted the mothballed larger-capacity direct reduced iron (DR)-2 plant and instead mothballed DR-1 in the first quarter, thereby enabling it to sell excess DRI in the merchant market. This also improved the overall efficiencies of the raw material mix, says the steelmaker’s parent, Industries Qatar (IQ).
This contributed to IQ’s higher production in Q1, it says in its earnings report seen by Kallanish.
