Peabody: First quarter met coal prices rise $60/tonne
US-based coal supplier Peabody witnessed a sharp uptick in year-on-year metallurgical coal prices in the first quarter, coupled with consistently strong demand, Kallanish reports.
Seaborne metallurgical coal prices increased by $60/tonne from Q1 2017 to Q1 2018, reaching $228/t.
Concurrently, global steel production increased by 4% on a year-to-date basis.
