Outokumpu does away with graphite electrode surcharge
In an apparent signal that increased costs for graphite electrodes have now been absorbed into its cost structure for stainless steel, Outokumpu has removed its surcharge for the product in Europe.
As from 1 January 2019 the steelmaker is no longer applying this type of surcharge, Kallanish notes. It was first introduced in September 2017 following a surge in the price of graphite electrodes used in steelmaking electric arc furnaces.
