Fire disables NSSMC plate mill until September
Japan’s Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC) says it hopes to restart production at its plate mill in Oita in September, after it was disabled by a fire earlier this month (see Kallanish 16 January). The delayed restart may be a boon to rival steelmakers, some of which NSSMC has asked to help supply its customers.
The fire on 5 January severely damaged the electrical systems of the line but much of the rest of the plant remained usable.…
