NSSMC closes blast furnace in Kimitsu
Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal (NSSMC) has officially closed No.3 blast furnace at its Kimitsu, Japan plant. It aims to increase capacity utilisation by doing this in response to weak domestic demand in Japan, Kallanish notes.
The company plans to increase production at BF2 to compensate for the closure of BF3. A 220-t converter in No 1 steelmaking plant will also be shut down as hot metal output at the plant declines.
