NSSMC buys Q4 Peabody coking coal at $200/t
Japan’s Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC) has agreed to buy coking coal on contract from Peabody Energy’s North Goonyella operation at $200/tonne fob Australia in the fourth quarter. There is still no conclusion in similar negotiations with Anglo American and Glencore but the deal suggests Q4 contract coking coal prices may rise even higher than Japanese mills had feared, Kallanish notes.
