North Goonyella gas build-up causes force majeure
Peabody Energy has declared force majeure on shipments of coking coal from North Goonyella in Queensland Australia after a build-up of gas at the mine site and an ongoing fire.
Assessing when the mine could resume production has been difficult because of an underground fire that has been burning since September, Peabody says. As a result, it does not expect the mine to restart before the end of the year, and the shut down could extend into 2019.
