Nippon Steel switches Wakayama blast furnaces
Japan’s Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal Corporation has started up the modernised No. 2 blast furnace at its Wakayama steelworks. This will replace output from the aging No. 5 furnace, Kallanish notes.
The new furnace will replace the No. 5 blast furnace, which has suffered a deterioration in performance over the last year. The switch-over will leave the plant with a net increase in capacity of around 500,000 tonnes/year, the company says. The No…
