Nippon Steel closes No.1 blast furnace at Setouchi
Japan’s Nippon Steel has shut down its No.1 2,650 cubic metres blast furnace at the Kure Area of Setouchi Steelworks, Kallanish notes.
Half of the approximately 3,000 employees will lose their jobs due to the BF shutdown. The remainder of the plant will continue producing steel until its scheduled full demolition in September 2023.
