Nippon Steel plans EAF-based electrical steel
Japan’s Nippon Steel said on 6 November that the company plans to produce electrical steel from a new electric arc furnace, Kallanish notes.
The first production from the project is expected during April-September 2022. By investing JPY 28 billion ($257 million), the new EAF will be installed in the Hirohata Works with 720,000 tonnes/year capacity. An existing EAF will be shut down after the new furnace is commissioned.
