Nippon Steel forecasts higher shipments after losses narrow
Japan’s Nippon Steel expects recovering automotive output to boost Japanese steel demand, and its own operations. The company still expects to book losses over the full financial year, however, Kallanish notes.
Nippon Steel produced 14.64 million tonnes of crude steel in the first half of its financial 2020 (April-September), 5.66mt less than a year earlier. Steel shipments, meanwhile, were down 4.38mt to 14.46mt.
