Morocco boosts Turkish billet exports in November
Morocco returned to boost Turkey’s billet exports on-year in November 2020, but they declined sequentially as Latin American buyers were absent.
Turkish semi-finished product exports, the vast majority of which were billet, reached 54,568 tonnes in November, up 56% on-year but down from over 75,000t in October. HS code 720711 billet comprised 54,120t, with Morocco doubling intake to 30,000t and Tunisia more then trebling intake to 24,050t, according to Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data monitored by Kallanish.
The average price of HS code 720711 billet was $420/tonne in November versus $366/t in November 2019 and $419/t in October 2020.
In January-November Turkish overall semis exports slumped -52% on-year to 583,200t.
Turkish rebar exports meanwhile rose 48% in November to 631,041t, but 11-month shipments abroad were still down -3.4% to 5.02 million tonnes (see Kallanish passim).
