Minnesota iron ore exports surge in second quarter
The US state of Minnesota saw a 306% year-on-year uptick in its exports of ore, slag and ash, driven almost exclusively by iron ore exports.
The state’s total ore, slag and ash exports totalled $112 million. Exports to Canada and Japan were the primary factors behind the increase, rising $68m or 147% and $44m, up from nil, respectively.
In the same time period, US exports as a whole grew 5.9%, Kallanish notes.
