Middle East DRI output rises 4% in 2016
Direct reduced iron production in the four Middle Eastern countries covered by worldsteel’s monthly report increased 41% on-year in December to 2.35 million tonnes.
This was mainly due to a 405% surge in DRI output at Saudi Arabia’s largest producer, Sabic, to 490,000t. Sabic’s crude steel output rose 59% in December to 445,000t. Sabic’s full-year 2016 DRI production nevertheless fell -12% on-year to 5.12mt due to weak performance in July…
