HBI strength to support Metalloinvest green steelmaking transition
Russian iron ore and steel producer Metalloinvest aims to take a leading role in the transition to green steelmaking, based on its position as the world’s largest merchant hot-briquetted iron producer, according to major shareholder Alisher Usmanov.
HBI is used as feedstock in electric arc furnaces, which produce steel with much lower energy costs and lower emissions compared to the sintering process, he notes.
