LKAB mothballed mine reopening to support pellet production
LKAB plans to reopen its Mertainen mine in the autumn to build up iron ore feedstock for its pelletising plants in Kiruna and Svappavaara. The mine has been mothballed since 2016.
The move is in response to increased iron ore demand and the seismic event which occurred at the Kiruna mine in May 2020 and continues to hold back production, Kallanish notes.
