Korean demand flattens as imports slide in 2016
South Korea is likely to see steel demand grow just 0.5% in 2016 to around 56.1 million tonnes, according to the Korea Iron and Steel Association (Kosa). A slight decline in steel imports could give domestic producers some breathing space however, Kallanish notes.
The association expects Korean finished steel production to increase around 0.4% to 74.4mt in 2016. This will be aided by a continuing decline in imports, which Kosa expects to fall -3.2% to 21.4mt. Ex…
