Kobe Steel earnings rise despite lower output
Japanese steelmaker Kobe Steel has reported higher revenue and profit attributable to shareholders for the fiscal year 2022 (FY22) ending 31 March 2023, despite steel production and sales declining simultaneously, Kallanish notes.
In FY22, the company produced 6.19 million tonnes of crude steel, down 0.4mt from FY21. Sales volume, meanwhile, decreased 5.5% year-on-year to 4.98mt, due to a decline in automobile production in Japan.
