Japanese steel industry condemns European protectionism
The move by the European Commission (EC) to take defensive trade action against cheap imports of Japanese grain-oriented electrical steels (GOES) (see Kallanish 5 November) has been criticised in Japan. The decision that the European steel industry has been harmed is “… inappropriate and regrettable,” says Koji Kakigi, chairman of the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (Jisf) and president of JFE Steel.
