Iron ore breaks $40/t for now

Seaborne iron ore prices increased again on Monday despite growing inventories at Chinese ports. Mine closure so far seem insufficient to keep prices much higher than current levels in the short term however. The Kallanish index for 62% fe Australian Fines gained $0.53/t on Monday to $40.42/dry metric tonne cfr Qingdao. A 170,000t cargo of Standard Sinter Feed Guiaba sold at a $1.35/t premium to the Platts 62% Iodex for February delivery. Iron ore inventories…
