Iranian output slows slightly, DRI capacity seen needed
Iranian crude steel output grew 16% on-year in the two months through 21 May to 5.61 million tonnes, slowing slightly from the first month of the Iranian year, according to Iranian Steel Producers’ Association (ISPA) data monitored by Kallanish. Performance last year was affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.
If power outages do not disrupt output, Iranian steel production should comfortably reach 33.6mt in the Iranian year through 20 March 2022, ISPA says.
