Iran mulls 25% iron ore export tariff
Iran is mulling the imposition of a 25% tariff on iron ore exports from 1 October, according to the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (Imidro). The country’s Council of Ministers is set to decide on the move imminently.
The tariff, as was the case when it was touted in previous years, is designed to encourage Iranian firms to invest in downstream steel production rather than simply mining and iron ore processing.
