Iran drives Middle East January steel output
Crude steel production in the Middle East, consisting of ten countries, fell 4.8% on-month in January but rose 23.1% on-year to 4.67 million tonnes, driven by Iran, Kallanish notes from worldsteel data.
In full-year 2023, the region's combined output rose 1.6% on-year to 54.57mt.
The region's largest steel producer, Iran, produced 2.6mt of crude steel in January, down 9.4% on December but up 39.2% on-year. 2023 production was 31.04mt, up 1.5%.
