Indonesian capacity not enough to prevent exports: ministry
Airlangga Hartanto, Indonesian minister of industry, said this week that the country could see imports grow 61% from an estimated 8 million tonnes this year to 12.9mt in 2020. This could grow further to 26mt by 2025 if the country does not install more capacity, he added. The Indonesian Iron and Steel Industry Association (IISIA) meanwhile warns that current imports are preventing domestic steelmakers from expanding, Kallanish notes.
