India cements place as second-largest scrap importer: BIR

China’s steel scrap consumption fell 4.8% on-year in 2022 to 215.31 million tonnes, as crude steel output dropped 1.7%. But, with its share of global crude steel output running at 54%, China remained the world’s largest steel scrap user, Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) statistics advisor Rolf Willeke said at the association’s conference in Amsterdam this week.
