India’s coking coal production rises in May
India's coking coal production in May increased by 6% year-on-year to 5.33 million tonnes, and it rose by 4% compared to April, according to production data accessed by Kallanish.
In the first two months of fiscal 2025 (FY25) – April and May – production grew by 8% year-on-year to 10.8mt.
As the world's second-largest steel producer, India relies heavily on imports for 90% of its coking coal needs, despite having significant coal reserves.
