India's coking coal imports surge in March quarter
India's coking coal imports rose 29% year-on-year to 15.08 million tonnes in the January-March quarter, according to vessel lineup data obtained by Kallanish.
The increase in imports was driven by higher crude steel output and more competitively priced coking coal compared to last year.
India's crude steel output in the March quarter is estimated at around 35mt, marking a significant, 10% increase from the previous year.
