Indian steelmakers seen unaffected by Goa mining ban
The Supreme Court of India’s ruling to stop all mining operations in Goa will have no material impact on Indian steelmakers as around 80% of Goan iron ore production is exported, according to India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra).
Goa produces largely low-grade iron ore, targeted for the Chinese market, while domestic steel players predominantly use a higher grade material of above 60% Fe content, the credit rating agency says.
