Indian consumption rises, imports plummet in January
Indian finished steel consumption grew 4.3% on-year in January to 7.35 million tonnes, while imports plummeted -41.7% to 602,000t, according to an Indian Joint Plant Committee (JPC) report seen by Kallanish.
Indian merchant finished steel production rose 10.2% on-year in January to 8.91mt and exports surged 224.5% to 889,000t. Crude steel production increased 11.5% to 8.37mt.
